Day 3 ~ Jesus Rescues God’s People
This is in the Bible in Matthew chapter 1 and
Luke chapter 21 verses 32-46

Yesterday we learned about how God’s people disobeyed God and didn’t want Him as king. God punished them but he also made a BIG promise. He promised that he would send someone as a rescuer.

Well He did. God sent his own son.

Granny today told us about a man called Joseph and how an angel told him about Mary’s baby.
The angel spoke to Joseph and said

“Joseph, don’t be afraid. Take Mary home as your wife. The baby she is going to have is God’s son. You must call him Jesus because he is going to save his people from their sins”.

When Jesus grew up to be a man he was going to do something amazing to rescue people. That was because he was God’s king.

When Jesus was a grown up some of the people did not like Jesus and did not want him to be God’s king. They thought they would stop God’s plan but God was in control.

God knew what would happen because He’d planned it. The men decided that they would kill Jesus. And they nailed him to a cross.

Most people laughed at Jesus, even a criminal who was dying next to him. But one man didn’t

He was another criminal who was also dying on a cross. He’d been watching Jesus and he knew Jesus was God’s king. He spoke to the other criminal who laughed at Jesus.

“Stop! You should fear God! You are getting the same punishment as he is. But we are being punished justly because we have done wrong and deserve to die. Jesus has done nothing wrong”.

Then he spoke to Jesus.

“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom!”

Jesus spoke to the man and said

Three hours later Jesus died.

“Today you will be with me in my kingdom”

Jesus died for a very special reason. Jesus, God’s Son, died instead of us. Jesus had done nothing wrong but was punished instead of us. He did it so he could forgive us all the things we do wrong. He did it because it was God’s rescue plan. And because of what Jesus did, we can now be God’s special people.

Will you trust Jesus to do that for you or will you carry on wanting to be your own boss? The choice is yours.
